AASM and Joint Commission accreditations are the gold standard for sleep labs. And now, more and more Medicare administators and private pays across the country are requiring accreditation to qualify for reimbursement. Marketing competition in large population areas is also becoming intense, so sleep labs need to be working to attain accreditation.
SCMI’s highly experienced sleep lab accreditation preparation team will provide service that can reduce your preparation timeframe, lessen your workload, and minimize the stress and worry over not being prepared for your site visit.
SCMI’s offers either individual step services or a complete accreditation service package that includes four steps. While most of our clients engage us for full preparation services, some prefer to employ individual steps or even hourly consultation, all of which can be provided, to address accreditation issues and needs.
SCMI’s four-step accreditation service includes:
Step 1 – Accreditation Readiness Analysis: The purpose and outcome of this step is to compare your sleep lab/professional service to required AASM or Joint Commission accreditation standards. SCMI uses the latest AASM and Joint Commission accreditation survey standards to evaluate your sleep lab. The outcome of this step is an Accreditation Readiness report on your sleep lab. It includes specific recommendations that will bring about full compliance will all standards.
Step 2- Accreditation Application Review: AASM and the Joint Commission both place heavy weight on the application answers and their requested database information. SCMI strongly recommends to clients that we participate in its completion to assure a thorough representation of ‘best practices’. How best to answer, what to include, and related facts that accrediting organizations want to see will be provided under SCMI’s guidance. Then SCMI’s experienced accreditation preparation consultants will review the final version before it is submitted.
Step 3 - Technical Policies and Procedures Review: SCMI’s accreditation preparation team critically reviews your existing sleep center/lab technical policies and procedures to make sure they measure up to AASM or Joint Commission accreditation standards. Included is SCMI’s highly acclaimed 2009 Technical Policies and Procedures for a Sleep Center CD, which can be easily customized for your sleep lab. This CD greatly facilitates the consultant’s review work. SCMI has both AASM and Joint Commission technical policies on CD.
Step 4 - Mock Review Site Visit: A mock accreditation site review is performed by an SCMI accreditation preparation specialist for your sleep lab once your team has completed its preparation and implementation of SCMI’s recommended readiness analysis actions as outlined in Step 1. The Mock Site Review is a complete ‘test run’ that provides valuable feedback and prepares the team for your actual site visit.
